Yesterday we reported that, Lenovo has stopped selling all its smaller display Windows tablets in the US. It includes ThinkPad 8 and Lenovo Miix 2 consumer tablet as Lenovo is not seeing enough interest for small Windows tablets in the US. Lenovo executive said, “In other markets, particularly Brazil, China, and Japan, the demand for ThinkPad 8 has been much stronger, so we are adjusting our ThinkPad 8 inventories to meet increasing demand in those markets. If market demand for ThinkPad 8 changes, we will re-evaluate our strategy.” Today, Lenovo completely backtracked from what that executive told regarding their Windows tablet strategy. Yesterday, we reported that Microsoft Windows had 2.1% of the worldwide tablet market with a total of 4 million units sold in 2013 according to Gartner. Microsoft is already working towards driving more sales volume. One such strategy is to produce low cost and high value devices. At MWC, Microsoft announced that they are reducing the hardware requirements of Windows for tablets in an effort to reduce the price of Windows tablets. Amrish Goyal, director of Windows business group in India told the following to TOI, “We are reducing our required hardware specification for Windows to bare minimum that is needed for good experience. We want to be price competitive with Android.
