While ODG’s current product lineup might not be a great fit within Microsoft’s overall company strategy, we then reported that their technology will help Microsoft to build new products like Fortaleza glasses. Osterhout Design Group also owns 140 patents related to wearable computing, so Microsoft can also benefit from it. Today, TechCrunch reported more information about this Microsoft’s deal with ODG. Microsoft has paid up to $150 million to buy IP assets related to augmented reality, head-borne computers, and related items from the Osterhout Design Group. “In terms of what we’re doing [at ODG], we don’t meake weapons. ZDNet today reported that Microsoft is planning to rebrand its “Windows Azure” services to “Microsoft Azure”. It was also reported that Microsoft will make this rebranding announcement this week, specifically tomorrow (March 25). The rebranding will go live on April 3, on the 2nd day of Microsoft’s BUILD developer conference in San Francisco. I guess this rebranding effort is to symbolize Azure as a cross-platform/heterogeneous cloud solution rather than just a Windows based Cloud service. The rebranding makes sense, given Windows Azure isn’t all about Windows. Azure customers can run Linux in virtual machines on the operating system. Azure users also can run Oracle databases and middleware, and use non-Windows-specific development tools, including Java, Ruby, PHP and Python. Are you happy with Microsoft Azure name? , an ex-Microsoft employee was arrested for leaking trade secrets and internal Windows related software builds to a blogger. Court documents revealed that Microsoft snooped into Outlook/Hotmail accounts of the blogger to crack down this case. Some news sites accused Microsoft for snooping customer’s (in this case blogger’s) email account. Electronic Frontier Foundation today raised the same issue criticizing Microsoft for searching blogger’s Outlook/Hotmail contents without court warrant. To the contrary, if Microsoft’s independent legal team concluded that there was probable cause, it could have passed the tipster’s information to the FBI to obtain a warrant and conduct the search under the auspices of the criminal justice system. The warrant protections enshrined in the Constitution would be preserved, ECPA would be satisfied, and Microsoft could have claimed the high moral ground. Instead, Microsoft has opted for an internal corporate shadow court. To be sure, the process described in Microsoft’s statement ...

Microsoft is known for their marketing videos of Surface which directly compares other competing tablets. Now, Samsung has released a video to promote its Galaxy Tab Pro tablet. It directly criticizes other competing tablets like Microsoft Surface, Apple iPad, etc,. When comparing with Apple iPad, the ad highlights that the iPad can only task, not multitask. And the display resolution of Galaxy Tab Pro is higher than that of iPad. As for Surface, it was criticized for having a keyboard like a laptop, a battery dock like a laptop, and a mouse like a laptop! I really don’t get the point Samsung is trying to make against Surface. Surface can be used just like a Galaxy Tab Pro without any keyboard covers, mouse, etc,. Anyway, enjoy these commercials. ...
