Microsoft has quietly updated their Office Web Apps suite with a new flatter UI that is more optimized for touch screens. The new look has UI controls spaced apart than before and also offers completely flat buttons. Microsoft has also given a new header with a prominent share button on the right end. There is also a new search box in the ribbon that allows you to search “Tell me what you want to do” kind of queries. You can type bold, find & replace and more to get suggestions and select appropriate choices. There is also a new feature to add footnotes & endnotes. Along with the announcement about availability of real-time co-authoring in Office Web Apps, Microsoft also announced bunch of new features on Word Web App. It includes some of the most requested features such as Header, footer support, Find and replace, Automatic document saving and more. On SkyDrive, Outlook.com, and Office 365 you can view PDF files using the Word Web App. PDFs attached to mail or stored in SkyDrive are quickly viewable in the browser regardless of device or whether you have PDF viewing software installed. Additionally, for SkyDrive you can convert PDFs to editable Word documents. This allows you to “release” the text in PDFs without requiring PDF editing software. Please note that the conversion does not change the PDF itself. Converting creates an entirely new file. Also, depending on the content of the original PDF, the formatting of a converted Word document may vary from the original.
