The Smoking Gun reports a group of alleged hackers have been charged with breaking into the computer systems of the U.S Army, Microsoft, and several other firms to steal pre-release copies of popular video games like “Call of Duty,” simulation software for Apache attack helicopter pilots, and confidential data that was used to create counterfeit versions of the Xbox gaming system. Three men have been named in a sealed federal indictment charging them each with 15 felony counts, including conspiracy, fraud, and computer hacking, according to a copy of the 54-page document. Two other alleged hackers–a North Carolina resident and an Australian teenager–have been identified as unindicted coconspirators in the scheme, which began in early 2011 and continued for more than two years. Yes, it’s so hard to believe. 5-year-old Kristoffer Von Hassel from the San Diego did it recently by logging into his dad’s Xbox Live account on Xbox One. His father was curious to know how he initially got access to games which were on his password-protected Xbox One profile. Sensor The sensor closely resembles the Kinect for Xbox One, except that it says “Kinect” on the top panel, and the Xbox Nexus—the stylized green “x”—has been changed to a simple, more understated power indicator. Hub and power supply The sensor requires a couple other components to work: the hub and the power supply. Tying everything together is the hub (top item pictured below), which accepts three connections: the sensor, USB 3.0 output to PC, and power. Last year, TechCrunch reported that Microsoft is in talks to buy Osterhout Design Group for $200 million. While ODG’s current product lineup might not be a great fit within Microsoft’s overall company strategy, we then reported that their technology will help Microsoft to build new products like Fortaleza glasses. Osterhout Design Group also owns 140 patents related to wearable computing, so Microsoft can also benefit from it. Today, TechCrunch reported more information about this Microsoft’s deal with ODG.
