There were reports floating around the internet few months back that Xbox vNext will require Internet connection to work. This news created lots of discussion and Microsoft obviously didn’t comment on it since it is about their future product which is yet to be revealed. Today, Ars Technica reported about an internal email from Microsoft which explained the internet connection required for Xbox vNext. Xbox vNext does not require internet connection for scenarios such as watching a Blu-ray movie or playing a single player game or watching a Live TV via Xbox UI. “Durango [the codename for the next Xbox] is designed to deliver the future of entertainment while engineered to be tolerant of today’s Internet.” It continues, “There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should ‘just work’ regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not ...

GamerAnx.com reports that a well-known gaming figure, Hector Martin or otherwise known as "Marcan," may have spilled the beans on at least one aspect of the next Xbox’s processor specs, noting the device “only” ran at 1.6 Ghz, half of the 3.2 Ghz of the current generation Xbox 360. The information was delivered in the context of disappointment in the 1.2 Ghz clock speed of the new Wii U, with Martin countering: If you want more evidence that MHz isn’t everything, a little birdie points out that Durango (Xbox 720) is specc’ed to have a 1.6GHz CPU. Food for thought. (And don’t bother asking me who that little birdie is.) Of course clock speed was more of an obsession with the last decade, and by 2012 we have now learned that clock speed is far from the be all and end all of performance. A larger number of dedicated cores ...

Citing the usual “people familiar with the company’s plans”, Bloomberg has confirmed Microsoft is planning to release a follow-up to the popular Xbox 360 console by Black Friday next year. They did not expand on the features of the new console, but earlier leaks suggests the device will have a newer version of the Kinect sensor and the ability to play Blu-ray disks. Apparently Microsoft is still deciding between whether to announce the console at E3 or in a separate event. Bloomberg did not comment on rumours of the so-called Xbox Mini, which would be more streaming media and less games orientated. Read more at Bloomberg here. Via the Verge.com ...

In Activision’s recent earnings call  CEO Bobby Kotick let slip an interesting titbit regarding next generation consoles in 2013. “We can’t really talk too much about next generation console plans, but I think it’s safe to say you have a Wii U coming out and there will be another new console coming and we expect that they’ll be very successful,” Kotick said. The Wii U will be coming out in 2012, and is at present not expected to set the world on fire, due disappointing performance and limited features, which only come close to current gen consoles released more than 7 years ago. There are already strong rumours that the next Xbox will be released in Q4 2013, which may mean Microsoft will have the next crucial holiday season mostly to itself. Of course there are also rumours of Sony introducing their next gen console at E3 next year. Given ...

Everybody knows that Microsoft is working on next generation Xbox console. Designer Joseph Dumary (no way related to Microsoft) has created a new Xbox concept design which looks pretty good. More than its physical appearance, his functionality details is more futuristic ! ! The 100% digital Xbox Prestige uses the foundations of the previous 360 Kinect to form this completely controller-less gaming console that’s even smaller than the Xbox Slim. A combination of motion sensor technology, including not one but two cameras built into the console, and integrated voice recognition make it a super responsive and hands-free gaming powerhouse. The KinectIN feature allows the user to purchase a game and simply scan the chip to the console. Once scanned to the user’s profile, play can begin in Microsoft Xbox Cloud or from the internal 2TB hard drive. The console has an 8-core processor for super-speed performance up to 20 times ...
