In a post on Major Nelson’s blog Stephen Toulouse, head of Xbox LIVE Policy and Enforcement, admitted that innocent users have been banned from Xbox Live due to a software error. He said: Recently, it was brought to our attention that a number of customers had concerns about the validity of a recent ban of their individual consoles, which they feel had been triggered inaccurately. In this case, the bans were related specifically to modded consoles. I take these claims very seriously, and after an initial investigation we have confirmed that a handful of banned consoles did in-fact appear to not have been modified or tampered with. We’re still conducting our review but the cause appears to be a software issue, not an error on the part of the enforcement team’s normal actions. Major Nelson has posted this screen shot of the Xbox Live user interface on Windows 8. It appears to be near identical to the UI on the Xbox 360, and given the power of the processors and GPU on the tablets there is at least some potential for the blockbuster titles on the console to come to the tablet also. Microsoft is keeping on its promise and delivering the update to users. Microsoft must have a bee in their bonnet about their Xbox Live network quality, as they are rolling out  an Xbox Live testing program called Xbox Live Labs. The optional app, which can be found in the Community Channel is solely for the purpose of testing and improving the service. Microsoft is rewarding this altruism with three Avatar items and three zero point achievements that one can earn for each completed test, including a lab coat, brain helmet, and crazy mad scientist hair. The tests run from March 10-27 and is open to all Xbox LIVE members living in the United States. Of note is that the tests run for several hours, and while running Xbox LIVE activities, such as gaming, watching movies or downloading music will not be available, and it may slow down one’s internet connection.
