International Data Corporation (IDC) research firm recently released their forecast on the new packaged video game and entertainment console systems. They reported that Sony’s PS4 will emerge with the largest global installed base of any console by the end of 2016. They also predicted that Microsoft will unbundle Kinect from Xbox One to reduce the price in the market and thereby increasing the sales against Sony’s PS4. This seems to be a strange prediction given the fact that Microsoft has openly said that they have no plans to unbundle Kinect from Xbox One. There was a bright spot for Microsoft in the report, they suggested that China remains the biggest global wild card. Microsoft recently announced that Xbox One will be available in China from this September. “If Microsoft unbundles the Kinect sensor from the Xbox One console as we expect in 2015, this should lead to rough price parity with ...

Microsoft today posted a video on YouTube talking about the design of Xbox One gaming console. They were highlighting about the seamless integration of Xbox One hardware and software through a unified design language. The design language, which uses a series of tiles and fluid motion, is steeped in the same DNA as Modern UI, the unifying language shared by Microsoft products like Windows 8 and Microsoft Surface. It draws inspiration from 16:9, which is the number that describes the width-to-height ratio most common in today’s high-definition wide screen TVs. The aspect ratio is naturally pleasing to the eye, and synonymous with cinematic presentation and the living room entertainment experience, two qualities that the Xbox team wanted embodied by Xbox One. The video also teases the upcoming Halo 5 game. Microsoft is expected to reveal Halo 5 game at E3 2014 in June. Another video titled Xbox One Design “Tell” ...

On March 13, 2014, during the launch of Titanfall, Raymond Cox (Xbox Gamertag ‘Stallion83′) became the first gamer to achieve 1,000,000 Gamerscore. As Stallion83 has become a celebrity in gaming circles for his love for gaming, Xbox Wire interviewed him to know about how he arrived at this huge number, what’s his next goal from here on and more. Xbox Wire: OK, so let’s step back, then. How’d you end up being the first to 100,000? What made you go for that goal? How hard was that to achieve, and how did that compare with 1,000,000? Stallion83: I guess it was around early 2006 when I really fell for the achievement system. American James McGee is an American game designer. He is perhaps best known as the designer of American McGee’s Alice. McGee recently commented on Microsoft’s annoucnment of having their console legally available in China (starting in September) with a lengthy facebook post: It’s a good thing Microsoft is rolling in cash, because they’ve just made announcement of a plan that’s going to cost them dearly. Of course no one reporting on this is any wiser to the blunder than Microsoft, so here are my Top 5 reasons why Xbox One will fail in China: 1. Can’t sell sand at the beach. Xbox One, PS4 (and all previous generations of consoles) are ALREADY IN CHINA. There is NO effective ban. Go to Taobao (www.taobao.com) and punch in “Xbox One” or “PS4.” You will find (as will Chinese consumers) consoles and games available for next-day shipping to your doorstep in China. 2. The set-top box ...

Sony now expects a 130 billion yen loss ($1.3 billion).  Sony’s market cap once nearly $70 billion now sits at around $20 billion. Hirai recently brokered a deal to sell off Sony’s VAIO PC unit, but it appears this decision will come at some cost. The company said it would have to write down a further 30 billion yen ($300 million) on its Vaio PC unit, reflecting a sharp drop in sales as consumers shunned the brand following Sony’s decision in February to get out of the business. This ...
