Lionel Raynaud, VP of creative at Ubisoft said that Ubisoft isn’t abandoning the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 anytime soon few months back. But now, Ubisoft Chief Executive Officer Yves Guillemot has revealed that Ubisoft will stop developing games for Xbox 360 and PS3 after 2015. “What we see is that this year is still fine for the PS3 and 360. But next year because they are selling very quickly, we’ll move to the new hardware. After 2015, it will be hard for us to create games for those systems,” Guillemot explains. I think it is too early to dismiss the market value of last generation consoles that includes Xbox 360 and PS3. With a huge install base of over 150 million units, developing games for these platforms should be profitable enough. Also, Ubisoft is planning to capitalize only on the next generation gaming platforms Xbox One and PS4 which ...

At gamescom 2014, 2K Games announced that Evolve’s Xbox One exclusive beta will become available in January 2015, and the game will be on sale on February 10. Also, Turtle Rock Studios gave a sneak peak into Evolve’s unique 4v1 hunt gameplay on a brand new map: Distillery. This new environment features the eponymous metallic structure set in a familiar-yet-alien forest teeming with wildlife. A river runs through it, complete with a towering waterfall and plenty of opportunities for platforming on the islands in current. As one might expect at a distillery, our team of hunters quickly found some hops – though these weren’t of the brewers’ variety. After one of my teammates finished off some of the aggressive local fauna, those of us who happened by the creature’s remains were awarded with a significant perk: 400% greater jump height. This bonus was helpful in keeping up with our flying kraken quarry, as we ...

If you hate the ads on Xbox dashboard, then you must know that Allen Murray is the person who was responsible for starting this concept of ads on Xbox. Nowadays, the Xbox dashboard is full of ‘ads’, i.e., links promoting content and apps in the Xbox ecosystem. This idea came up for Allen a decade ago when he joined Microsoft from Amazon. Initially, his idea was not supported by his seniors at Microsoft as they rejected his idea saying that gamers will hate ads. Even though they are not really the usual ads, his choice of language, using terms like ‘advertising’ and ‘banner ads’ that conveyed a different tone among others. But Major Nelson supported his idea and took it to Xbox Live Arcade team for designing the Banner Of The Day (BOTD) system that they would use to schedule the ads. Nowadays the Xbox One UI is nearly all ‘ads’, i.e., links promoting content ...

Ori and the Blind Forest is an upcoming platform adventure video game designed by Moon Studios, and published by Microsoft Studios. “Ori and the Blind Forest” is easily one of the most stylistically gorgeous games we’ve seen on Xbox One so far. “Ori and the Blind Forest” was a critical choice at E3, winning more than 15 nominations and six wins from the gaming press. At Gamescom, Thomas Mahler and Gennadiy Korol of Moon Studios walked us through a later, tougher area of the game called Ginso Tree. Unlike the sprawling, largely lateral areas shown previously, Ginso Tree is a long, vertical ascent, with the goal of restoring the decaying tree’s natural state. Early in the level, Ori earns a new power essential to making the climb – the Bash Attack. Mahler explained that the team aims to develop abilities not usually seen in 2D games. Bash Attack is a familiar, ...

As part of the massive layoffs Microsoft announced last month, Microsoft decided to shut down the recently formed Xbox Entertainment Studios which was responsible for creating original programming for Xbox platform. CBS entertainment president Nancy Tellem was hired by Microsoft back in 2012 to lead these efforts and their recent production was “Every Street United” which was premiered on Xbox One during the world cup. There are about 12 projects currently in various stages of production. Hollywood reported today that XES is in discussions with Warner Bros. about possibly becoming a stand-alone entity based at the studio. If it happens, XES may become part of Machinima, the video game-centric YouTube network in which Warner Bros. has already invested it. A Warner Bros. spokeswoman said that the studio is “constantly having preliminary discussions regarding business opportunities with numerous companies at any given time. A conversation is just that — a conversation.” Hollywood Reporter says that ...
