There were some reports that Xbox One controllers will not work with Windows PCs, but Microsoft’s director of product management Albert Penello ended those reports that Xbox One controller will work with Windows PCs for games. Penello commented the following on NeoGAF forums to answer the wrong reports, “This is 100% wrong,” “When the drivers become available, they will work with the existing controllers. There is no plan to do a new, separate controller that only works on Windows. It will be the same as it is on Xbox 360 – the Xbox One controller you have today will work. “That’s not to say that we may not ship also PC SKU of the Xbox One controller, much like we do on Xbox 360.” “No more updates on the timeframe beyond what’s been publicly stated,” said Penello. “The plan is this year. When the update comes out and we have ...

NPD Group today released their February gaming industry report. Xbox One continues selling at a record-breaking pace with 258,000 units sold in the U.S. in the month of February, surpassing Xbox 360 sales by over 61 percent at the same point in time. But the bad news is that Sony’s PS4 still leads Xbox One sales by about 10% in the US. Microsoft is expecting the launch of Titanfall in the March to boost their numbers. “PS4 led hardware sales in February 2014, but by a narrow margin with Xbox One selling over 90 percent of what the PS4 sold in terms of unit sales,” said Liam Callahan, an NPD analyst. “With Xbox One’s higher price point it led hardware sales on a dollar basis.” With Xbox One and Xbox 360 combined, the Xbox platform sold more hardware than any other home console platform and held 43 percent of the ...

Back in 2012, Microsoft introduced a new way in which you can buy a Xbox 360 4GB console with Kinect for just $99 under two year contract. The contract for two year would require you to pay $14.99 for Xbox LIVE gold subscription. This is similar to the way you buy your smartphone under contract from AT&T or Verizon. Microsoft has quietly ended this program and there is no way you can get a Xbox 360 on contract. Microsoft said the following in response to ending of the program, “This program was intended to be a pilot experiment from the start, and Microsoft routinely adjusts the mix of offers available to its customers and this change was simply standard business practice,” This move from Microsoft is not surprising given the fact that they didn’t announce this contract plan for their newly introduced Xbox One. Do you expect Microsoft to re-introduce the contract ...

Microsoft Game Studios’ chief Phil Spencer spoke at SXSW Gaming panel yesterday. He said that his company’s new senior leadership is in great support for Xbox despite rumors that Microsoft might sell off Xbox division. He even revealed that he had explicit conversations with Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella and upcoming Devices and Studios division president Stephen Elop about Microsoft’s commitment to Xbox and they’re extremely committed to Xbox. He highlighted the fact that Xbox is a really an important consumer brand for them as a company as Microsoft. Xbox is one of the most beloved brands that Microsoft has. “In a funny way, our job is to create great games on Xbox, on Windows, on Windows Phone, and the stuff that happens above the studios is kind of just ‘stuff’ to a lot of the studios, which I think is the right way,” Spencer said. “They’re still driven by the creative ...

Undoubtedly Titanfall is the most highly anticipated game for the Xbox One.  In fact, in the short term, Microsoft’s success with the Xbox One  is dependent on the successful launch of Titanfall.  Microsoft hopes Titanfall will do for the Xbox One what Halo did for the previous consoles. Over the weekend Respawn lead engineer Richard Baker officially confirmed that Titanfall’s native resolution will be 792p on the Xbox One, or slightly higher than standard HD (high definition).  This shuts down rumors that Titanfall might have launched at 900p, or a resolution in between standard HD and Full HD [1080p]. “We’ve been experimenting with making [the resolution] higher and lower. One of the big tricks is how much ESRAM we’re going to use, so we’re thinking of not using hardware MSAA and instead using FXAA to make it so we don’t have to have this larger render target,” Baker stated. “We’re going to experiment. ...

Last week, Microsoft confirmed that they are revealing DirectX 12 at GDC on March 20, 10AM. All leading GPU makers AMD, Intel, Nvidia and Qualcomm are on board. The event page had only Windows logo at the bottom leading to speculation about whether Xbox One platform will be supported. Microsoft ended all those reports by adding Xbox One logo at the bottom as you can see in the image above. The last major version of Microsoft’s graphics platform DirectX 11 was announced about 6 years back. Since then the desktop graphics API development has stagnated. During this time, AMD has developed their own set of APIs called Mantle. OpenGL/OpenCL has come a long way since then. Last week we reported that Microsoft is making some announcement about their next generation DirectX platform at Game Developers Conference in March. Microsoft is promising better tools that will allow developers to squeeze every last drop ...

Penny Arcade’s Gabriel was quite vocal about his opinion that he prefer Sony’s PS4 in this current generation gaming consoles. However, he had a change of mind after looking into the latest developments regarding Xbox One. He tried out the Twitch app integration in Xbox One and came away impressed. He compared his Twitch experience to the one with Sony’s PS4. He preferred Xbox One’s Twitch integration UI, video quality options and other neat little stuff. Read his full experience from the source link below. I’ve been pretty vocal about preferring the PS4 so far this generation. I have to say the Twitch app is a point where I can say the Xbox One is just way beyond what the PS4 is doing right now. Combine that with Tianfall and I think you’ll have a hard time getting me off my Xbox for a while. Source: Penny Arcade ...

This is not really a surprise information. Washington Post today reported that Microsoft handed out promotional materials Thursday at CPAC, the annual conference for conservatives to promote its advertising system for targeting political ads. Microsoft runs some key web based properties like  Xbox Live, Skype, MSN and other which can be used for advertising. Microsoft is building a profile based on you and the selected ads specific to demographic categories, or to specific congressional districts will be targeted towards with the help of your profile.  The ads, which would appear on the Xbox Live dashboard and other Microsoft products, combine Microsoft user IDs and other public data to build a profile of Xbox users. Campaigns can then blast ads to selected demographic categories, or to specific congressional districts. And if the campaign brings its own list of voter e-mail addresses, Microsoft can match the additional data with individual customer accounts ...
