Vizio announce first AMD-powered Windows 8 tablet with 1080p screen

Engadget reports that Vizio is releasing the first AMD-powered Windows 8 tablet.  The Vizio Tablet PC is an 11.6-inch slate running AMD’s dual-core, 1GHz AMD Z60 chip, 2GB of RAM, 64GB of solid-state storage, a 2-megapixel front camera and micro-HDMI / micro-USB ports.

Besides the AMD chipset however another differentiating feature is the presence of a 1080p screen, still a big rarity for Windows tablets, both RT and x86.

Vizio is still to announce pricing or availability.

    Nice looking device.

Hard to judge without knowing cost. Also, I wonder how performance will be with an amd chip, plus heating issues too.

Must be better than one using atom, but I would really like to see reviews soon.

Doubtful! I used the Acer W500 running an AMD Z chip. The fan would kick in everytime you ran an app (causing venting), and it would run very warm indeed.

Factor the slight bump in processing, and the increased graphics load, and I can only surmise what sort of userbility ‘features’ will crop up!
