So, really it is just a Surface RTs?

  • Duel

“Microsoft has done virtually nothing to add consumer appeal to the Surface 2. ”

Have to agree with this, i didnt see anything new which makes difference what first surface didnt had, still no hooks.

It looks like DOA again, but lets wait and see.

    • wessam

      Is there is 3G port?

      • nohone

        LTE early next year.

      • bob

Not that big a deal really, how many people actually buy 3G Iceland ipads? Everyone has a smartphone, i can share internet to my soon to be surface pro 2

    • DKJr

Well, you are either just blind or can’t hear. Either way, maybe stick with what pleases you amongst the alternatives.

    • nohone

So then there is no reason for people to upgrade to the iPhone 5s, no reason for people to upgrade to the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and I could list any other number of products not worth upgrading to.

      • Duel

There’s one big difference all those gadgets you listed already selling very well, people want them. No-one didnt want first surface and i dont see why those who didnt bought first surface would buy this, because it stil lhave all the problems why it didnt sell in first place.

        • nohone

MacBook Air and MacBook Pro sell well? There were other manufacturers that sold better then them, but I know, you think that they are all, and Windows 8 is a failure, while Apple selling laptops and desktops is a runaway success. Last year Apple was not even in the top 5, bested by HP, Lenovo, Dell, Acer, and Asus. And Apple has not even released any new computers except the Air this year.

The point is, that if Surface is such a minor upgrade, adding more processors, more memory, more SSD space, vastly better battery, etc. then what do you call Apple bumped the CPU speed and added a broken finger print reader? When Apple put a Haswell processor in the Air, changed the type of SSD, what did you call that? When Apple, oh, wait, Apple is behind, again, and have not updated their laptops or desktops to the current processor, so you can’t say anything about that.
If Microsoft has done virtually nothing, Apple has done less than virtually nothing for many of their products.

          • Duel

You just doesnt get it, do you really think the problem with first surface was bad battery life, bad processor, less memory?

            Guess again.

For example windows rt can’t run same apps which wp phones, thats one big problem, who want to buy apps and games two times?

By the way apple sold 3.8 million macs last q, like it would matter, because this isnt about computers.

          • bob

Apple users have to buy apps twice, for iphone and iPad… Mute point

          • Duel

No they dont, clearly you havent heard universal apps, first of them came 2010 and nowdays most of apps and games are universal (if they are available for both devices)

For example i just bought worms 3 0,99 and it automatically downloaded to my phone too for free of course, without need to even download it seperately from appstore.

          • nohone

And did it automatically download to your Mac? You want WP apps to run on a Windows 8 desktop, so I assume that it will do the same on a Mac laptop or desktop – otherwise you would not be complaining about it with Windows.

          • Duel

“You want WP apps to run on a Windows 8 desktop,”
I don’t want that, customers want that. They want synergy among their devices, that’s the point buying same ecosystem devices, they work very well together. Why buy surface if you anyway need to buy everything again, while iPhone or iPad owners buy iPhone and they get those apps which they already have on iPad, how handy and great is that.

Also it would be pointless to use iOS apps with mac because those apps and games are for touchscreen, but surface is touch screen device.

            By the way I don’t own mac…

          • nohone

Why buy a Mac and an iPad and an iTouch and an iPhone when there is no synergy between those devices?
I buy one Office365 subscription. I get to install it on 5 computers and get the same exact experience with my tablet, my desktop, and my laptop, and I get a version for my phone – any of the 3 major phone OSes. If I am on a computer without Office, I can use a great web site to read, create, and edit documents. And if I have a Mac, I can use the desktop version there, too. How great is that!
If I go to Apple’s ecosystem I get a stripped down version on my iPad, I get an old (nearly 5 years) and barely functional version on my laptop or desktop, and something completely different in a “me too” web app version of iWork. And of course, it is all (except for the web app which I tried – it sucks) locked down to Mac. A fragmented ecosystem, for a fragmented set of OSes that you need to make excuses for when it does not work as it should.

          • nohone

WOW!!! A whole 3.8 million Macs in one quarter?!?! That is less than one week’s worth of sales of that OS you like to call a “failure” – Win8. You must be so poroud to support the failure that is Apple. Perhaps if Apple made it able to run iOS apps on OSX, then Apple could have more than 17,000 apps in the Mac store. Of course, Windows 8 has well over 4 million apps available, so Apple has a pathetic record on the number of apps. But that is OK, nobody uses Mac to notice their failure.

          • francis

iDumbs call innovation when apple changes the CPU and SSD size as apple do not innovate, soon they will call the finger print reader innovation which was used on Windows mobile by HTC 10 years ago..

    • francis

the surface pro is a real tablet PC.. and with surface pro 2 the battery life is great, USB 3 ports, and the battery cover is great. its DOA for iDumbs as they like the same old shit with an S attached to it..

  • The1nChicago

I still think MS will not sell these like they should. The price is still out of range and they REFUSE to listen. I could see if MS priced the type covers cheaper, but they did not. What is the sense is making and developing nice products that no one will buy? I bought the RT at $199 and love it. But they are trying to compete with Apple which they should not be doing. They also needed a killer game to launch with the Surface 2 to show the prowess of the Tegra 4 processor.

    • nickcraze

Quality devices are not sold at cheap prices. You paid for what you get and what you get out of the Surface 2 and Pro are quality.

      • The1nChicago

I am not disagreeing with you. However, I live in reality and you can expect different results doing the same thing. MS has an image problem and they need to rebuild. They need to get these devices in to as many hands as possible. Once they see how well built and nice these devices are they will start to gain back customer satisfaction. If MS would have priced this Surface at 399 it would sell better. MS is giving people things they do not want. MS Office is great but not everyone uses it. Which they still are not getting. When you are playing catch up, you need to do what it takes.

        • Truthhz

Nexus 10 is plastic piece of junk that Google doesn’t even make a profit from and it’s $399. How can MS sell superior quality device for same price?
MS will release 8″ surface later for cheaper price.
Besides, you can buy cheap plastic tablets from Asus or Acer. I’m glad MS is making quality devices.

    • francis

I bought my RT at 599 and still love it, the only thing held me back from the surface pro was battery life, now I am pre ordering the surface pro already

  • ekral

I expect that it will not be available in the Czech republic until 2016.

    • bob

Maybe 6 months s after main markets?

  • GG002

I really want both of these devices, with all the peripherals and accessories! And this is from someone who went through pains to important Microsoft’s very first tablet with all its teething problems. If I could only choose one, I think this time I would go for Pro 2, though, as the battery life has been greatly improved.

  • grs_dev

The Surface 2 is the product that Microsoft should have released in the first place. Letting the first gen Surface give Microsoft, Windows as a whole, Windows 8 specifically, Tables on Windows in general, and Surface as a brand get beat up by the first intro was totally unnecessary.

Now let’s see if they know how to bundle it with other value ads so that the price point is NOT what it’s competing on.

  • Duel

“Microsoft’s Surface 2: New tablet, same problems

“Panos Panay opened his remarks by saying that the “Surface 2 is not subtle, but is a revamp. It is not the simple changes that everybody wants, but it’s the changes people need.” Unfortunately, the changes that he then went on to describe involved making the device thinner, faster and giving it a full-HD display — criticisms that few had leveled at the first generation of the hardware. No, the problems that every critic had were the limitations of the Surface’s operating system: Windows RT.”

These guys saw it too, just like i said, the problem why first surface didnt sell are still there after surface 2.

Windows RT 8.1 is a very nice upgrade, but the preview has been out for months now so you should know about it by now.

I think they should have announced several new apps, games and services that are exclusive to Windows 8 app store. I felt like the only thing the event was missing was the announcement of new top tier software. The hardware is solid. The accessories are great, but too expensive. The bundled services are nice, but the software story was not really explained at all.

    • Truthhz

The tech press is full of it. How can you build an App store overnight? Panos mentioned that App store grew from 10,000 to 100,000 since last year with more apps like Flipboard coming.
The tech press will call Google Chromebooks promising devices even though they have barely any apps. But RT gets slammed for having “only” 100,000 apps in a year.
If people are so desperate for x86 apps, they can buy the million BayTrail tablets coming this fall.
Windows on ARM will be here as long as ARM is relevent. You can also expect Win Phone and RT to merge.

  • ZappyKins

These look like nice upgrades. IMO battery life was the biggest problem with the Surface Pro (well, and the lack of HDMI.)
Really looking forward to seeing how the get the DJ apps to work. That could really be a thing as most event DJ’s are digital now.

  • Yuan Taizong

Well, Microsoft has finally done it, the Surface will come with standard 11 hours of battery, a full hour more than Apple, it will now also depend on how much your apps will drain of-course, and as Windows uses more it might be lower, but the raw device is superior to the iPad in every way now, good job Microsoft, good job.

  • tomakali
