Windows 8.1 Popular Among PC Gamers

Windows 8.1 is seeing success among PC gamers.  Data from Steam users now shows that Windows 8.1 (x86/x64) is being used by 6.34% of all Steam users.  This is a nearly 5% increase from users just one month ago.  Windows 8.1 is now being used by more people on Steam than Mac, Linux, and Windows Vista users.  Windows 8/8.1 accounts for 18.06% of steam users, while Windows 7 still commands 64.38%, and Windows XP ~6.45%.

Gabe Newell, co-founder of Steam, and former Microsoft employee has been fairly open about his dislike of Windows 8.

Ironically Steam claimed that Windows 8 is bad for gaming (only because they felt threatened by the Windows Store which could also offer full games, but no-one has tried that yet, Microsoft should make exclusives in the Windows Store).

I think they should make a sub-section of the Windows Store just to showcase available/listed PC game titles, just to snub Gabe Newell and his concerted Linux-for-PC push agenda!

someone said last time “no gamers wanted this crap” because Project Spark requires you to use Windows 8.1. so he said it was crap nobody wanted… its funny when you see alot of gamers on twitch using it, and steam statistics saying otherwise.
I dont even use Steam but im a pc gamer, so this doesnt show other platforms like Origin and alot of mmorpgs games that dont use steam, so those playes arent counted.

Better performance + latest gaming technologines = no brainer for gamers. Gaming PCs are also regularly updated anyway so it makes sense.
