Windows 8 Release Date Most Likely To Be In Autumn 2012

Dan’l Lewin, VP of Strategic and Emerging Business Development speaking at start-up LAUNCH event at the Microsoft Silicon Valley campus hinted that Windows 8 likely to be released during Autumn 2012.

“we will be in market – if you look at the crystal ball and just say what  happened in the past is a reasonable indicator of what our forward looking  timelines will be and just speculate – we’ve made the point about having a  developer conference later this year, and then typically we enter a beta phase,  and then in 12 months we’re in the market, so let’s make that assumption.”

“Our strategy is a statement about phones and tablets being more or less the  same thing. I think tablets are big phones, more or less and I think they will  want, over time, some of the capabilities that PC architectures have.

“They want the security, they want the manageability – especially if you are  an enterprise buying large volumes of these things, but I think consumers over  time want to know about those things as well. Our approach with the tablet play  being based on PC architecture, rather than [adding to]the phone architecture,  I think is the right one.”

I think its little late if goes by this news, because it will give Apple’s iPad a full 3 year headstart similar to iPhones.

As seen with the iOS 5.0, Apple is running out of innovation steam. At best the rumour has it that the iPad 3 will have a higher resolution, hardly a reason for Microsoft the throw in the towel.
On Day 1 a Windows 8 tablet is going to have more potential than an iPad 3.0, the question is will the Windows developers buy into it. This fall’s BUILD conference is going to have to knock our socks off.
