I wonder why they switched it from free to paid? Anyways, either way I’m getting it, excellent piece of software.

There are costs associated with it, mainly the codecs. They’ve been giving it aways for free all these years. It’s has a very niche audience and it’s probably no longer worth eating the cost.

yep. if I recall from long ago (when I was trained in MCE support, this may be wrong its been a while) when MCE 2005 came out the DVD playback license itself cost MS $5 per Media Center license. I imagine that has gone up and theres the other codecs they have to license in there too,

Who still uses media center? lol

I do (when my computer is back up) it’s the only TV I’ve had for like the last 5 or 6 years, lol. The DVR functionality is bomb.

but you can’t use it with a sat box, right? Is it just over the air stuff you record or is there another way?

        • Benoit Langevin

I used it with my Satellite box and use the Happaugee HDPVR. Works great and watch my recorded show over to my XBOX.
