Tip: You Can Now Pin Your Favorite Modern App On Your Task Bar In Windows 8

oblyTile Windows Tile

The Start Screen in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 allows you to pin your favorite apps downloaded from Windows Store as Live Tiles. If you want to add particular program to Start Screen or create a shortcut for a Modern app downloaded from Windows Store on desktop, it is not possible. There is a simple program called OblyTile which allows you to do so. You can now pin your favorite modern app to your taskbar.

OblyTile is a simple-to-use program that allows you to create new titles for the Windows 8 Start screen. It can be handled by users of any level of experience.

After a brief installation procedure, you are greeted by a stylish window with a well-defined layout. You can get started by writing a tile name (optionally hide it from the screen) and by specifying the path to the corresponding program.

It is possible to apply an image from the computer to the tile, as long as it has the JPG, BMP, PNG or JPEG format. Plus, you can import a picture for the small tile, as well as pick the tile background and text color.

Moreover, you can work with a tile managing tool to edit existing tiles, convert shortcuts to tiles, as well as to import and export tiles.

Microsoft needs to build this into Windows.

Why would I want to do this? I’m trying to get AWAY from the tired old desktop. Sheesh.

  • Zdenko

I’m sorry but this just reinforces the convoluted cluster f@ck Microsoft has created with Windows 8. Why the heck didn’t they just create a unified moble OS for tablets and phones and left Window 7 alone.

They did leave Windows 7 alone. You don’t have to use Windows 8 unless you decide to. I wish people who prefer 7 would just keep using it and stop bitching about 8.

Can I not use a custom image for the tile? It just keeps giving me the defualy white and green icon even if I add a file for the icon.

Microsoft might aswell put this and live tile notification in taskbar
